HOLT FIELD MEMO - Whitman
Hello SSSL,
I am Michelle Winnett, Recreation Director for the Town of Whitman.
Whitman Youth Soccer has been issued permits for the use of many fields in Whitman, including Memorial Field (may also be known as Holt Field) on Essex Street in Whitman.
For the 2010 season, parking will be an issue at this site since adjacent to the field, construction of a new police station is slated to begin April 1, 2010 (at the site of the now demolished Holt School). We are told that the construction should be cleared and our parking lot restored for the 2011 seasons.
We will NOT have use of any part of the parking lot for a year due to this construction so the following parking instructions should be noted for any team, spectators and officials:
Parking will be allowed on the FIELD side of Essex Street and may be extended from the DPW parking area (please keep the one marked garage clear for emergency) and all around the Town Park across from the field. Parking will be tolerated at the VFW Hall parking area as long as our guests are conscientious. Please DO NOT PARK on the cemetary side of the street, as this is a sidewalk area with a raised curb HOWEVER, a crosswalk
is being painted for a drop off cross for players. Please advise all players and guardians to use caution while crossing to the field, especially since this is a new crosswalk. We will place warning signage in advance of the crosswalk to serve as a warning to drivers.
Additionally, there is a narrow road that runs between the cemetary and pond. If the gate is opened, cars may park to the side on that road (Colebrook Blvd). Colebrook Blvd will be treated as a one way and will exit onto South Ave (RT 27) at its end. This road is rarely used and is being cleared for use during the construction....
